First seen on stage in 1950, THE BALD SOPRANO is one of the most important modern classics in the Theatre of the Absurd.

Written by Romanian-French playwright Eugène Ionesco, THE BALD SOPRANO holds the world record for being staged continuously in the same theatre for the longest time, having played at the Théâtre de la Huchette since 1957.

As it has been a permanent show in its current theatre, THE BALD SOPRANO has not played a full production in London, but fans of the theatre of the absurd genre are hopeful that this seminal work will one day make an appearance on a West End stage.

What is The Bald Sporano about?

When the Smiths and the Martins gather for an evening of light chat and entertainment, it is set to be a night like any other. A night like every other. Conversation devolves into meaningless chatter and non-sequiturs as people try to make themselves heard in an increasingly uncaring world.
