MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN debuted at Schauspielhaus Zürich, produced by Leopold Lindtberg in 1941, before the second production taking place in East Berlin in 1949. The play continued to entertain audiences all around Europe and North America through the mid to late 1900’s. Before returning to England in 2009 at London’s National Theatre.

What is Mother Courage and her Children about?

MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN opens in Dalarna, spring 1624, in the midst of the Thirty Years War. A Sergeant and Recruiting Officer are seeking soldiers for the Swedish campaign in Poland. A canteen wagon appears, bearing the infamous Mother Courage, her silent daughter, Kattrin, and her sons, Eilif and Swiss Cheese.
