DUTCHMAN is a play written by African-American playwright Amiri Baraka. This could be coming to London’s West End  in the future.

DUTCHMAN explores race relations, politics & sexuality stereotypes among other themes.

The Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City premiered DUTCHMAN in March 1964 before having a film adaptation in 1967. The play has gone on to have more modern depictions in 2007 & 2013.

What is Dutchman about?

Set on a New York subway train, Dutchman examines the brief, but fatal, relationship between Clay a well-dressed, intellectual, young African American man and Lula, an older, flirtatious, white woman who she flirts with Clay, becoming more and more personal as their conversation develops.
